Free State province stormed into the SAFA/SAB Under 21 Championship Final for the second time in succession after beating Limpopo 2-0 in the semifinal at the Giant Stadium in Soshanguve on Friday.
Free State, who won the tournament last year, have now set a date with Mpumalanga in what promises to be an exciting final at the Giant Stadium on Saturday. The game will be shown live on SABC 1.
Despite the victory, Free State had to work hard to reach the final after Limpopo gave a good account of themselves. Free State's defence remained resolute and bottled up Limpopo dangerman Lefuno Munyai.
Limpopo were the first to test Free State keeper Majasto Xaba with Munyai unleashing a hard shot from the edge of the 18 area, but his shot was parried for a corner kick in the 8th minute.
Both teams continued to create chances in search for the first goal but it was Free State that had the last laugh when Tshepo Mokhabi hit the back of the net after a good pass from Thabo Maphakisa in the 28th minute.
The referee blew the half time whistle with the score board reading 1-0 in favour of Free State.
Free State started the second half on a high note with Thabo Maphakisa extending the lead in the 47th minute after a pass from Mokhabi to finish with a low shot past the keeper.
Maphakisa could have grabbed himself the 3rd goal in the 53rd minute but he shot wide with the 'keeper at his mercy.
Fatigue seemed to work against Limpopo as Free State continued to defend their 2-0 lead until the final whistle blew.
