Gauteng suffered their fourth straight defeat at the SAB Under-21 Championship at Giant Stadium in Shoshanguve, going down 4-1 to Mpumalanga on day three of the national tournament.
The loss ended a disastrous tourney for the hosts who lost successive Group A games to the Northern Cape, Free State and Western Cape heading into Wednesday's clash.
Mpumalanga opened the scoring as early as the fourth minute, Siphenathi Laqwela with the goal for the 2013 runners-up.
Siphamandla Dhlamini doubled Mpumalanga's lead just after the half-hour mark before the hero of their win over the Western Cape, Bheki Nkosse, added to their advantage nine minutes into the second stanza.
Sibusiso Khauoe provided a glimmer of hope for Gauteng with a stunning free-kick in the 64 minutes, but their joy was short lived as Dhlamini completed his brace six minutes later to seal a convincing win for Litheko Marago's men.
The defeat bringing a sad end to Gauteng's tournament - Mpumalanga's final group game is against the Northern Cape on Thursday.
