University of  Free State head coach Godfrey Tenoff has praised striker Dylan O'Brien, who recently finished the 2014 SAB Under-21 National Championship in Mafikeng as the tournaments top scorer.

O'Brien netted six times as the Free State clinched their second Championship in five years by defeating North West 4-2 in the Final on July 20.

The Durban schooled marksman started his studies at the Free State University at the start of the year and will also represent Kovies in this years Varsity Cup which kicked-off on Monday.

O'Brien came off the bench as UFS slumped to a 1-0 defeat to UP-Tuks in their opening game.

Tenoff explained that had O'Brien not suffered from fatigue after playing six times in the space of a week, he would've been sure to start against the defending champions.

"Dylan  is a wonderful player, great attitude on and off the field. I think if he hadn't played in the tournament we would've probably started with him [against Tuks], we needed to protect him as well as our interest if we want the best out of him for the rest of the tournament," said Tenoff.

"You could see when he came on that his movement really worries defenders, I am looking forward to see what he offers us."

UFS next face the University of Limpopo on July 28.
