Mpumalanga Province have qualified for the SAFA/SAB Under 21 Championships semifinals after beating Northern Cape 4-1 at the Giant Stadium in Soshanguve on Thursday.
Mpumalanga started the match on a high note with striker Sphamandla Dlamini leading the attack. Dlamini was the star of the show after grabbing a brace while the other goals were shared amongst Siphenathi Laqwela and Kgopotso Zitha.
After opening the score sheet in the 24th minute through Laqwela, Mpumalanga could have doubled the lead in the 35th minute, but Dlamini missed from the penalty spot after Sfiso Mthimunye was brought down inside the 18 area by defender Alroy Baardman.
Dlamini made amends of his penalty miss when drove in a shot from inside the 18 area in the 41st minute to send the game into half time with Mpumalanga leading 2-0
The second half was a replica of the first half with Mpumalanga still in control of the proceedings.They surged ahead a minute after the start of the second half through Zitha after poor communication by Northern Cape's 'keeper and defence.
Dlamini drove home the last nail in the Northern Cape coffin from the penalty spot after Zitha was brought down inside the 18 area. Northern Cape scored their consolation goal through Jeranimo Power in the dying minutes of the game.
